It’s been a few months since my annual trip to the Isle of Man TT, and busyness got in the way of posting my thoughts on this year’s event. Fist and foremost, of course, was the racing. It was incredible, with records falling, and the top riders ( Harrison, Dunlop, Hickman) dominating the podium across the fortnight. BMG -sponsored rider Shaun Anderson, seen in the above photo at Ballaugh Bridge, acquitted himself well and is now a consistent top 12 rider, a huge accomplishment for an independent!
Recovering from the Covid- cancelled events of 2020 and 2021, the TT has returned in full, with quite a few changes in scheduling and surrounding events, geared towards attracting the modern motorsports traveler who may not have two weeks to spend at such an event. Racing is more spread out and there are two full weekends of scheduled races, enabling shorter but no less intense viewing and enjoyment.
The island itself, and the time off between racing, provides ample opportunities to tour and absorb the unique Manx culture and landscapes, which is what makes the TT different from any other motorcycle or car racing meet. And this year, the weather was amazing, almost Northern California- like, so soaking in the sun, atmosphere, and beauty of the towns and countryside was easy.
With the 100th anniversary Manx Grand Prix starting soon, I am already counting down to TT 2024, and I encourage any motorbike aficionado to make a pilgrimage to the TT at some point. I’m happy to provide insight into your planning, so feel free to message me at [email protected].
