What the press has to say about the BMG Mercury Motorcycle Jacket:

“After 43 years of riding in Africa, Europe, Britain, the Far East, the US and the Great White North, this Mercury textile unit is as close as I’ve come to finding that Holy Grail of Motorcycle Jackets.” WebBikeWorld.com

“Riding in the rain isn’t so Bad. Neither is riding in the cold, but riding in either condition wearing the wrong gear can be absolutely miserable. Thankfully the Mercury Jacket has been by my side to shield me from both elements. Designed in England, the folks know a thing or two about riding in cold and wet conditions. The Mercury jacket is made from heavy duty nylon with extra material in the likely impact zones and features a Teflon coating to resist dirt– The Mercury’s long list of features includes Knox CE armor in the shoulders and elbows, and a 8-inch zipper along the bottom to attach a pair of riding pants. British Motorcycle Gear says the jacket is also waterproof, windproof and breathable. The twin full-length flaps protecting the front zipper ensure that no water or wind reach the rider’s chest, while reflective material on the shoulders and arms help you to bee seen at night. There is also a full-length removable liner to keep you warm on those cooler rides, and a whole slew of hook-and-loop straps and various buttons along the arm and chest area to ensure a correct fit. Normally I save my opinion about a product until the end, but this time I’m going to spoil the surprise early. I like this jacket.. A Lot…Unlike some other jackets in which the armor is only comfortable in the riding position, I can wear the Mercury jacket on or off the bike. It’s that comfortable. If you are looking for a quality jacket with all the amenities at a great price, look no further”. Rider Magazine

This jacket lived up to the press. I read the webbikeworld.com review calling it "The Holy Grail" and I must say I agree.. Great Job in the Cold, Wet and Heat of B.C. Canada…

I purchased a Mercury Jacket from your company and I would like to pass on a few comments about this jacket.

First, it is an outstanding piece of gear. It is very well made and the quality is apparent. The neck closure is the one notable failure of the design but even that is not too annoying. I was caught in a thunderstorm the other day at the mid-point of my journey and had no opinion other than to push on. My Mercury jacket performed flawlessly. No water reached the interior, despite the heavy rain. I’ve worn the jacket in mild weather, without the liner, in temperatures ranging from 50 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and it is comfortable. It is not a hot weather jacket but is a very useful piece of kit. In addition to the comfort provided there is a high level of safety features built into the jacket.

Second, the jacket is fairly priced. I looked at dozens of jackets before settling on the Mercury. There are cheaper jackets on the market but few superior ones.

    Thank you
    Jon McKay

I’v had this jacket now for over a year, it is functional, light, very comfortable and also looks good. I’ve worn it in all day rain and it kept me dry.

There is one particular fault however; the velcro collar closure is ineffective; it easily blows open in wind. I have remedied this somewhat by installing the spare press stud button that came with the jacket. BMG Response. We include the extra snap for this purpose.. In Europe many riders wanted the snap as an option or more velcro…so we included both.. We have now added the snap closure to the neck in the USA since most riders seem to prefer it..

This is a great jacket. The quality is top notch. I have owned it now for a couple of years. You can not beat it for visibility (mine is yellow, and I have a yellow bike), the reflective panels are fantastic. The neck closure does like to come loose, but the reason I dinged it by one star is the ventilation. I have never ridden without being wet underneath due to moisture collecting inside the jacket. I am not uncomfortable while wearing it, but it needs better ventilation. I have ventilation problems with all my jackets except my mesh jacket, so perhaps this is the price we pay for a waterproof jacket. This would be a perfect jacket with better ventilation.

I’ve had this jacket almost two years and have worn it in temps from 32-100 degrees. The yellow is highly visible and the jacket has held up very well. Lots of storage, good ventilation.

Last Friday, our 1996 Honda GL 1500 Gold Wing had an unfortunate meeting with some street pavement (and so did we). Jim slid for about 50′ on his back, and I tumbled next to the bike. The Mercury Jackets had shoulder, arm & back armour. We were also wearing the EZ-on pants. When the dust settled and we started taking stock of the damage, Jim’s coat was ripped out at the back left seam, but it definitely saved him from road rash and the elbow pad did it’s job of protection…he had a small bruise instead of road rash and a probable broken bone. My jacket was amazining unharmed with just a small scuff on the shoulder. We travel all over the U.S. with the Great Lakes Wings Motorcycle Drill Team and with the Gold Wing Touring Association and have been promoting the Belstaff products to all of our friends (many of which purchased Belstaff items after comparing to other brands). Now – fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it – we have a great example of how well the Belstaff equipment works! Thank you Belstaff for saving our hides!!

    Ride safe,

    To whom it may concern,

I am writing in regard that I had a BMG Mercury textile jacket that I used when riding my motorcycle. I recently wrecked within the last month and I was very impressed with how well it held up. The jacket was great. From what paramedics said it looked like I slid about 100 feet, and I was pretty much on my front side. There was very minimal damage to the jacket up until the point of the paramedics having to cut it off. 🙂 I have attached some photos to show how well it did. The front turned black from the road, but the only real damage I could see was near the ends of the sleeves at the end of the the elbow protectors some slight holes in the jacket. As a result of the jacket getting the worst of it, I got a very minor scrape near my right wrist.

I would like to say thank you for making such a good quality jacket. I am planning to get a couple more, one for myself and one for my dad now as he rides too.

    Thanks for your time,
    Nicole

The quality of this jacket is excellent. I live in Oregon and use it as both my winter and summer jacket. Thanks BMG for a great product.

  9. ToddtheSquid

I have being using a Mercury for many years now. Living in Vancouver, I need a jacket that is totally waterproof and warm, yet flexible enough to provide ventilation in hotter conditions. This jacket works well on both fronts. The only flaw? The Velcro on the throat closure is not strong enough in windy conditions and continually releases. I have had other users make the same comment.

BMG Response: We include extra snaps for this purpose. The new Production now has a hidden neck snap as well as the Velcro so this problem has been resolved.

I was recently in a crash wearing the mercury jacket with the added back armor. While I was going 45 mph someone pulled out in front of me and I went flying over the vehicles hood and landed on my back. I didn’t have one bruise on my back and the jacket didn’t have one scratch on it. This is an excellent jacket and I highly recommend BMG products.

I crash tested my Mercury Jacket a little over a yer ago. It protected me very well. It suffered a little scuff on the right sleeve, but damage is so minor, I still use it instead of the new one (same model, and color) I purchased to replace it. We survived together, so we will both keep enjoying motorcycling together, as well.

BMG, I just want to thank you for your time at the Charlotte IMS. I received my Mercury jacket on Friday, and the fit is perfect. I’ve taken it on a 200 mile 45-50 degree trek over the weekend and the comfort and warmth is the best from any of the other jacket I have owned. I think that this will be a perfect fit for NC an mountain riding. Thanks again Cheers Ron

  14. Monte

I haven’t had the jacket too long but the first outing with the jacket was outstanding. The jacket kept me warm and was extremely comfortably. I couldn’t ask for more…

  15. L. Buck

I have had my jacket for almost 3 years and it performs as described. It is really waterproof and the Thermolite liner does an amazing job of keeping you warm. I ride year ’round to about 40 degrees F. I took an hour ride at freezing and was still comfortable. My only regret is that I bought a size up because I always had to put on a fleece under my other jacket WITH the liner in and was still not warm enough. Love the product and the customer service at the shows and over the phone have been phenomenal! By the way, you will like the Pioneer pants as well to go with this jacket. Bought a pair this year and they perform great!

  16. Mike

I am very happy with this jacket. I bought the Mercury mainly because it was so well rated for riding in cold weather. I seldom encounter wet conditions where I live; but I do ride often in temperatures from 30 to 40F. My Mercury has kept me warm and comfortable thus far in that temperature range with just a light sweater underneath…much more so than any other jacket that I own. My guess is that when I do get caught in some rain as occasionally happens, it will keep me dry too as advertised. Thanks for a nice product at a reasonable price. It has my recommendation.

  17. Jody

Size XL was perfect for my frame of 5′ 10″ and 200lbs. Quality is found throughout this Mercury Jacket. Liner will keep you warm even as the temps reach freezing. Look forward to adding some pants in the future !!…………….Sales staff got right back to me with my sizing question and I received my jacket in a couple of days. Could not be more happier !!………………J

  18. Kristi

when I tried this jacket on it immediately felt custom made. I have an Olympia jacket that was costly but rarely used as it was so stiff and with my full face helmet restricted my neck movements. this jacket feels like a million bucks and will be great for riding all winter in west Texas and New Mexico on my BMW!

  19. Bernie

Ordered by mail and was a tad nervous, but this jacket is superb. Very pleased with both the quality and performance.

    Keep it up BMG,

    Bernie

  20. Bill

I’ve had my jacket for 2 years and love it. It’s comfortable through a wide range of temperatures. It is truly waterPROOF as a number of wet adventures have proven. Also survived a couple of ‘upsets’ with excellent protection for my old bod. When I bought mine I was unsure of the size and got good advice from BMG so it fits beautifully.

  21. Gazza from NZ

Would give it 5 stars but haven’t tested it in the rain yet. Fit and quality is excellent. Very pleased, better than I expected. Ordered it on Friday and it arrived in New Zealand on the Wednesday!!
